Really cant think of any "issues", just unwelding. and drilling holes. Is your old one broke?

Mine's welded on also. I rebuilt mine for about $120 bucks which replaced the master and the shock. Everything else was just fine. I cleaned it up, got rid of the rust and lots of waterproof grease. I didn't want to go through cutting it off although it's not that big of a deal to do. Only took a couple hours and a six pack. ;)

its gotten a stuck a couple of times lately moving the trailer around the house, stuck both not wanting to come un done and also potentially not closing right. Would hate to have issues trailering or at the marina.
I just got the trailer and it had been sitting for several years before, I am going to try some lube in there and see if it helps first

but when even the galvanized metal has some surface rust here and there, I have to be ready for worst case.
and $50 for a new coupler is nothing for some piece of mind.
