I Am A Welder And I Can Tell You There Ain't Much That Cant Be Welded. That May Be Cast-aluminum It Will Need To Be Tig Welded. A Good Honest Welder Should Not Charge Much For Such A Small Job.

Test the fin with a torch. If its inferior metal it will melt.Go from solid to liquid
with no inbetween.

its gunna cost me about 50 to have it rewelded, thanks guys! another concern is i took the lower unit off so i didnt have to take the whole motor into the shop, and the gear rod popped out of the lower unit and the shift rod moves up and down but and it doesnt feel like its changing the gear when i move the prop by hand??? did something go wrong????

Rotate the prop as you try to shift.I don't think anyone here has had one of those apart.I wouldn't be surprised to find something broken inside.
As far as the fin goes if you generally run in good water I would forget the fin.In the really old days there were a number of motors with no skegs.

Re: welding a briggs and stratton???

they charged me 60 to weld it! why would somthing of broke in side? i grabbed the gear rod and it slipped out, it still turns the prop but it doesnt seem like the shirt rod does anything on the lower unit, i just got it back today, in a few days im gunan try and see if i can get it back together, hopfully no problems.

reason im concerned is i once had a 9.9 evinrude where i took the lower unit off and it never working right again, i could troll slow with it, but when i went to full trottle it, it would pop out of gear??? idk why i did that, so i sold it as is.

The rod was fastened to somerthing in order to shift if it slipped out whatever held it in place broke or slipped off.I wouldn't be surprised to find
plastic or white metal in lesser parts in the gearcase.
