Welding smart tabs to 18 foot boat

I built a 18' aluminum boat that needs some trim tabs. The boat is all 1/8th thick and I was wondering what degree I should weld the tabs in the fixed position without it causing me to plow water. I am going to have to weld them if I am unable to mount smart tabs. My friend that helped me build the boat has some welded on his and his Dads boat. He says we can just bend them to fine tube them. I am having a porposing issue and the boat stands up to much on acceleration.

Why can't you install Smart Tabs with screws as they were intended? Welding & fixed position tabs don't make sense to me.

I do not have the 8" required to mount the shock to the bottom part of my transom. I am going to call them Monday.limited_height_mounting.jpg

You will never find one position that works for all situations, they would work really well at one speed but not another, go with the smart tabs, they move as conditions change.
