Anyone out there lucky? Maybe hit a lotto or know someone who has? If I remember to play I might hit one number...but probably not. But, of course, there are different kinds of "lucky" aren't there? :p

My father-in-law won about $30k years ago in the lottery. Helped put my wife through college. Unfortunately about ten years ago he lost a good paying job and was out of work for over a year. He has been underemployed since then.

My Aunt and Uncle won 2nd place a local hospital lottery last winter. They won the "dream cottage" package.... Brand new lake front cabin, twenty some ft pontoon, and $5K cash. Total value was $985,000 if I recall correctly. They sold the toon for something like $26K, and have so far kept the cabin (for 1 summer)... it is very fancy/nice. I suspect they will put it on the market next spring and use the proceeds to give them some options for owning a place down south for the winters.

They're working folks and just at the cusp of retirement... couldn't have happened to a nicer couple.

I put in for a quick draw duck hunt for one of the conservation area's in missouri, and I got drawn for opening day, pill #1. Pill 1 means i got the first pick of all the spots on that reservation. Needless to say, me and my 3 buddies were limited out before 10 AM.

Once in a great while....We were visiting Reno for a concert earlier this year and I was cooling my heels one morning with a Bloody Mary when I noticed a 33 to 1 longshot in a horserace on the simulcasts. So I put $2 on its nose. Went off at 99 to 1...yep....paid $204....bout pooped my drawers.
Be danged if there isn't a youtube of it. Check out the #6 horse "Kalukahua" from start to finish. (Of course my greedy butt wished I had invested a sawbuck or more...hind sight is 20/20 you know;))

I work with a good ole' boy, who won the lottery, also making world-wide headlines.

He had played the same lotto numbers every week for years. Never won. One week, on his way home from the store, he noticed that two of the number on his tickets were transposed. He went back to the store and purchased another ticket with his correct numbers.

His updated ticket won $1000 (finally) and the incorrect ticket, won $3.3 Million.

He's 62, still drives a truck and will gladly pick "usable" items, out of the Company dumpster.

Goold ole' boy indeed! ;)

Never considered myself lucky money wise (very lucky in most other aspects of my life), but......

I was invited to a Shriners benefit "stag", by a friend, who had been attending them for 26 years, never winning the (or any part of it) $3000 top cash prize, in an elimination drawing (200 tickets, last one drawn wins).

I won $1000 ($3k split by the last 3 ticket holders) the first two times, I attended the stags.

I would be luckier if I ever bought a ticket. Not only am I cheap but I was an engineering major in college and figured out that the lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math:)

Re: Well do ya...punk?

I remember the early days of the "Megabucks" lottery. Some guy picked his numbers and bought a ticket at a kiosk in a shopping mall parking lot.

His numbers were the correct ones for a multi-million dollar jackpot, but the ticket was not legit. The kiosk was operated by a scammer who would set up, move, and set up again.

Poor guy appealed to the lottery commission which claimed to be sympathetic but could not honor the ticket. He got nothing.

I've always hoped against hope that they would find the scammer, tie him to a chair, and give the guy ten minutes alone with him. But if they ever did nail him, I never heard about it.

An aquaintance of mine won the lottery...in a way...

He developed some little piece of software I don't understand fully but has something to do with video compression technology. This was about 10-15 years ago.

A major software manufacturer heard about it, looked him up and offered him $55 million dollars for his little company. He was about 30 at the time.

The part of the story I really like is how he invited his family for a celebration weekend in New York City, complete with trip to and from on a chartered bizjet.

On the ride down he presented everyone envelopes. In them were cheques for a million dollars, each.

It's been interesting watching from the periphery. Big custom homes, staggeringly expensive sports cars. (Which he will lend to to friends with the only rule being "when you bring it back, those tires better be hot...")

He's worked hard and done well. Still, it makes you a little dizzy to see the results in person...like something straight out of a movie.

Re: Well do ya...punk?

I figure my total winnings from the lottery have been about $7800! That is the $1 per each day I could have played for the last 30 years and didn't ... resulting in a net gain of $7800. Nothing ventured, $7800 gained! ;):p

Re: Well do ya...punk?

depends on how you look at luck
I was hit on my motorcycle in 86 broke both legs in 3 places (each)
fractured skull 3x
broken jaw, collar bone, wrist, ankle, forearm, ribs, broken toes and fingers more times than I can count on my fingers and toes, 10 screws 2 rods 1 plate in my spine(auto accident), shot 3 times, (12 guage at about 30+ yards bird shot, 9mm left forearm, 5.56mm through left calf) of which I have had 5 ortho surgeries.
But I get around pretty well.

And if I won the lottery I would probably hurt myself cellebrating and have to spend it at the doctors office :D

T, if we ever meet face to face, remind me to step back about 3 steps ... I don't want to be too close when the lightning strikes you, since that is about all that is left to happen!:eek:

Re: Well do ya...punk?

I won life's lotto when I met my girlfriend. She's my best friend! Same eats, drink, enjoyment, humor; never a dull moment. We might argue when discussing something (more of a debate, I guess), but we never fight about anything.

Her family is just like mine... let's just say not perfect, but we understand the other, so that makes it easy; no explaining required.

We talked about marriage... we both are afraid it might change things. won't take that gamble......... yet ;) Just shy of 2.5 years together. Maybe try another 2.5 before risking it <3

Yup, won the lottery... and I know it!

Re: Well do ya...punk?

I've paid more to the Indiana lottery than I've won. Not lucky.

I win probably 90% of my out-of-state lotteries when passing through. I've cashed probably 2 of them ever!

Oh, but I'm alive and well, getting through school, happy wife, nice house, a boat that floats, a crazy dog, my cat has more chromosomes than yours(!), and nobody has a hit out on me. That doesn't stop me from carrying my Glock .40cal but, I'd consider myself extremely lucky compared to most!
