Well I guess the engine is coming out afterall

We thought we got lucky. Water in oil turned out to be that the boat got filled with rain water and not a crack afterall. We have been testing and replacing rusted parts and today I started the engine and heard a knocky sound. It was bad at the begining at idle and after 30 seconds or so got quieter. Reving the engine up would reveal the sound was still there. it would be most audible when reving it since it is under load. I didn't feel like driving an hour to put it in the lake to listen to it. This noise just came out of the blue! We had put about 6 hours on it at the lake and it sounded great! We are still 2.5 months away from our houseboat vacation and I am glad this is happening now.
Anyone have any words of wisdom on pulling the engine? Is it going to be a bhitch? I will need to get an alignment bar now for sure.

It could be a ***** depending on boat design and how rusty and corroded the hardware is.

I guess I should have mentioned that its a 1997 chaparral, with a 5.7 liter EFI.
