1977 british seagull untouched by human hands since 78. About 3 hours on it. These pictures do not represent how nice it really is with only small amount of paint flaking off the tank. No corrosion anywhere. Everything appears as close to new as i could imagine it being. Seller stated that he had his mechanic look at it, and it had poor compression, so it wouldn't run. I said, what the heck, would make a good wall hanger if nothing else. When i saw it, couldnt believe how great a shape it was in. Gave him the 50 bucks he was asking and took it home. Put the comp tester on it, and just 1 quick tug gave a reading of 70lbs. 1 more pull to check for spark, and Yup..Bright blue snappy spark. WOW. Never had one, but im really looking forward to having this. WOndering if i should even put it into service..
Oh Yeah..Came with the paperwork also. :)

1977, looks more like an 1877, I would like to hear that run. Sure is an odd looking motor, kinda looks like a wankel motor.

Great dependable workhorse. If you have an application for it then use it. Simple and efficient. Great find. Millions of these motors still in active service in Britain. Love the big fan prop's on them. They are real easy to repair. My Dad had one in the early 60's.
get it running and enjoy it.

Yup..It's pretty interesting to look at. Some people are nuts for these things from what i have been reading. And.. Right on the top she says..."The Best Outboard Motor For the World" so how can i go wrong?

I would spray some WD-40 in the cylinder and get the rings working free. The rings are obviously sticking. Nice motor. I sold one like it on EBay once. Mine was missing a transome bracket and I still got $189.00 for it. These motors are very basic and simple to work on. Have fun with it. I know this motor will run like a champ.

Pretty "thick" fuel to 2 stroke oil ratio if I remember correctly.

Curious why you think the rings are sticking? Very thick 24-1 ratio improves the compression in them. Im sure if i gave it a few more pulls on the rope start, that 70lbs would come up lots..I just tested it with one quick tug in the snow yesterday. Was reading the saving old seaulls site and some of them run on about 45lbs. Sounds crazy, but i don't think they have much to start with. Either way it's interesting enough to enjoy it whatever becomes of it. Thanks.

Very nice, looks like a 70s maybe a silver century, what?s the number stamped on it at the top of the leg.
Look?s in amazing condition, good chrome and no rust, you?re very lucky, my old Seagull is only a baby, no parts available anymore for my one and I do use it every now and then, but it has to run on a one pint to one gallon of fuel mix, basic 1:10 mix and smokes very little.
Yours should be a 1:25 and as long as you have water pumping out of the head, it will run all day, lovely motors very easy to fix if you ever need too.

It's a 77 forty plus short shaft with the "bing" carb so 25-1 is acceptable. Saving old seagulls site has some parts available..Don't think Iboats has a seagull parts section.. But hey.. never know.

Just looked at your vid..Nice stuff there. That seagull sounds great. What is the blue motor towards the end of that video?

It's an old Anzani Pilot, pretty common motor, as you can see I have a bit of an eclectic collection.
Shouldn?t be long before the Seagull's running then.

Great looking Seagul!! Some people love 'em, some people hate 'em. They do tend to leave a blue smoke trail. We had one decades ago, when it was warm & wanted to cooperate you could literally start it without the pull cord, bring the flywheel around to the compression stroke & give it a spin; when it didn't want to cooperate you could pull on the starter rope for an hour & it wouldn't do anyghing. :D They are great for sailboat auxilaries, low speed, lots of torque. Put it on a small light boat and you will be suprised how slow you go... seriously! ------- Gotta love'm :)
