Well that didn't go so well....

Went out in the pontoon today, and my wife went for the first time. We headed out on the bay and it was just too windy and choppy. We had a lot of water over the bow because of the large rollers. Then the bow submarined twice to the point we had to get off the throttle. So we threw in the towel on our original destination and plans, and motored to the shallows along shore. Once along the shore the water was more calm, the kids had a great time swimming, and pretty wife got to enjoy the sun a bit. It was still a great time. But my wife is not too excited about going out again due to the excitement in the beginning of the outing. I keep telling her it was just the rough water, it's usually not bad. I'll get her out again on a calm day and see if it changes her mind.

Just make sure the next time you go it is going to be real nice, if you get a good trip in you should change her mind, how could you not like being out on on boat but ya, I don't know too many boaters that don't hate wind, she will come around.

Sounds about like our trip out on the water a few weeks ago. We left from our dock and the waves were about a 1' chop. We rounded a bend and went to 4' waves. I tried to give it a little more throttle to keep the bow up, but we took a good wave over the bow that soaked everything back across the pontoon deck. My wife was scared that we were going to sink -- till I explained how the fence panels are raised which allows the water to run off the deck. That seemed to calm her down -- but we still made an immediate turn-about (safely) and headed for calmer waters.

Sounds like you just need to plan on only going out next time when it is ideal, and make sure you don't overstay for the day. You want to make sure you minimize the chance of something not causing an issue. Like loading the boat after dark, sunburns, kids and wife starving or dehydrated. That way it is only a positive and fun time. And for sure stay away if there is a chance of a storm popping up, even on smaller water, a bad storm can get bad, and quick.
