Got a 1988 23' Wellcraft CC in my driveway. Overbuilt if anything. Best boat I've had in 30 years.

No problem w/my 1994 Eclipse - would certainly recommend Wellcraft as a very sturdy, reliable boat.

I have an 18" '93 Wellcraft Eclipse and it is a well made boat. I am the third owner and it has held up very well. Good luck in your decision. Note the newer hulls are made by Genmar (www.genmar.com)

I have some 2nd hand knowledge as I rode around on a 20 footer in serious saltwater bay chop. It was great for that. The owner swore by the boat. Since that time I have been keeping my eye out for a good used wellcraft.

I have a 1990 20' Sport dual-console Wellcraft with a Black Max 150 on it. I use it 50 plus times a summer and could not ask for a better boat or ride in any conditions. 12 years old and everything still works on it.

bbb

Re: wellcraft boats

Fished a 1989 Wellcraft v-20 hard. 30-40 miles offshore in RI off Point Judith, went through some very nasty seas with her and she handled great. Sold the boat when we bought our new house. That Wellcraft was the second best boat I've owned. I wouldn't hesitate on buying another Wellcraft. The best boat I've owned was 1973 Seacraft,(Now this boat is legendary). But have to admit the Wellcraft comes a close second! Now I fish out of a Renken :(

What are the negatives you've heard on Wellcraft?

Re: wellcraft boats

negatives are mainly the jd power reports on the late model boats. The latest one is worse than last years.

Re: wellcraft boats

I've never liked the idea of buying a brand new boat, especially some of the new no namers. If I were to buy a boat (which I will soon I hope). I would get a little bit older hull, like the Wellcraft, Boston Whaler, or Seacraft. And invest the money I might save into a solid motor and some good electronics. Of course if you bought a Whaler you wouldn't have any extra but you would have a hell of a boat! If you are hesitant about buying a later model Wellcraft, by all means do much more research and buy yourself that solid hull!
