A friend is selling a 1995 Wellcraft Eclipse cuddy, 5.7, stainless prop with 20 or 21 degree pitch, excellent interior, very good exterior, fish finder, new stereo, 3 tops (fastback, camper and trailering), and the tandem axle galvanized trailer is a 2000. All is in good to excellent condition.

What can others tell me about this boat? What should I be looking for when I inspect it? We are doing a pre-purchase lake test on Saturday. I have been using fishing boats with outboards up to this point.

I will be using the boat for family pleasure use, tubing, skiing (maybe a little fishing....)etc.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Wellcraft Eclipse Advise Needed

Generally they were well made and nice boats with a good reputation. Check the floors for any soft spots and the transom for any flex. Check the rear seal for leaks and look for any signs of water intrusion. See how the motor runs and do a vacuum test as well as a compression test on all 8 cylinders. Also look for oil leaks. Are there any service records? Check the bottom of the boat for any damage. One the water see how it runs and handles. You might want to take a knowledgable 3rd party along to get a less biased opinion.
