Hi
Question to throw out to all. does anyone know of the excessive problems that exist with blistering and then stringer problems with Wellcraft St Tropaz? The year of the 2 boats I am looking at are 89's and are 32'. I have heard questions raised about this issue.
Anyones input this and other issues are appreciated.
djm

Can't speak to the St Tropaz but my 1988 23' CC fisherman is as solid as they come.

Re: wellcraft

I own a St. Tropez, yes they did have stringer problems. The big problem years were 87 and 88, but there were some earlier and later. They aren't all bad, ya gotta get them checked. One of mine was replaced before i bought the boat, and the survey went fine. Whoever did it did a nice job. The other hasn't had any problems. I have a friend that just bought a 89 and it has had no repairs and shows no moisture at all.
I did look at one in Annapolis that had a survey before i bought it and it had stringer moisture on both sides.
Either get a survey or borrow a moisture meter and check to be sure. Besides that, i really like the boat, lots of power. I took it on a 500 mile run last summer with no problems.
Re: wellcraft

I've never heard of a blister problem, nor seen it. Stringers are the only problem i've seen. I bought the boat for me and my wife. The front island bed is super comfortable. I've had 6 sleep onboard before with everybody having enough space, but the table/bed deal is a hassle on any boat. We have no kids, and found the layout good for a couple. Also the bunks are roomy, i had to spend a night there once when the admiral was mad at me :) . All in all, i think 4 people would be best suited for this boat.
They came with two engine packages, big blocks or small blocks. I was dead set on getting one with SBs until i found this one. Now i'm glad i have the extra power.
Let me know if i can help ya out answering anything else.

Mike m2
I still have some questions for you if you don't mind. What size motors' {2} 454? and what are your approx gallon/hour? Do you have generator? Also what part of chesapeake are you on? I keep my Maxum in Canton/ Balto City. I would love to see your boat this summer sometime and have a brew? thanks for all your info.
ps great looking boat...
djm

Re: wellcraft

DJM, we are very close to one another. I wouldn't doubt if we have even crossed paths, as i spend a lot of time in the Inner Harbor. Have you ever been to Marley Creek? There's a sandbar there where people hang out called Tanyards cove. It's a nice place to throw a hook overnight as there ain't a house around. I keep my boat directly across from there and spend a lot of time on the sandbar.
Yes, i do have the 454's, they rate them at 340hp each. I burn about 35 gph at 22 knots. The boat will hit 40mph, pretty fast for a 32 footer with inboards i think. I have only seen generators in the smallblock version. They stick the gen between the engines so i'm assuming that there ain't enough room with BBs. I use a Honda 2000i on the back deck to run stuff, tho i really wish i had a genset. Just not in the budget right now, and the Honda does a great job with little noise.
Right now she's in my yard, getting the hull painted, and a million other projects.
Last year i traded my old boat for this one. The guy i traded with kept my old boat for one season and last week purchased an 89 St. Tropez. He said he missed my new boat so much he had to go get another one. He got the blue paint scheme and smallblocks, keeps it over in Bear creek.
Stop by this summer, i'm usually in the creek.

Mike M2
Thanks again for the info. Did your friend buy the one that was for sale at inner harbor yacht sales? I looked at it and it had blister issues {can be fixed for a price I'm sure} they were asking 26k. Very cheap but it did need extensive work. I am familiar with Marley Creek. Glen Burnie area correct? I'll run by with a couple cold one this summer. Good luck with all your boating projects.
djm
27 Maxum
Mz Azzie
