It was a great place to go boating, but yet there was hardly anybody boating Saturday or Sunday. The ramps were not crowded and it was pretty much wide open water the whole time. We stayed at the Best Wetern which has a dock and just boated down the Muskingham and up and down the Ohio River for several miles.

Almost posted this in the "Idiots at the Dock Thread", but it wasn't that bad, but a story never the less. Nobody at the ramp when I got their to put the boat in the water. There was three wide lanes, but a dock only to the far left, so only one boat could go in next to the dock. Well I'm in the staging area getting my boat all ready like I have learned to do. Another boat comes in and goes down right next to the dock of course and stops before getting the boat in the water.

I tell my wife I'll go down the middle, you pull the truck and trailer up and I'll be at the dock to pick you up when you come back down. She says no just wait for them and unload at the dock. I wait and they are taking forever. Another guy comes up behind me and comes up and talks to us. I tell him whats going on and he says he'll just go down one of the other two lanes. The other guy is still not even in the water yet and this guy behind me is not breaking any speed records either.

Finally my wife is getting frustrated with the first people and their was a bunch of them with loud little kids, and she says just go ahead and put it in. So I back down the middle and put the boat in as quick and good as can be and she pulls the truck up. I start to back the boat out and the first guy is now in the water and so is the 2nd guy. One of the guys at the dock starts backing the boat back with a good bit of power while a kid is holding the rope on the dock. I yell "you're going to pull the kid in" and the guy on the other side of me yells "drop the rope" to the kid, which he finally did.

My wife gets back down there and I get just close enough to the dock for her to get in the boat and we head up the Muskingham to see where the Best Western dock is located. It's maybe a mile up the river. We go up check it and go a little ways up the river, turn around and come back down the river. When we get back to the loading area the other people were just getting out into the lake. Not sure what the heck the were doing for that much time.

that's cool. I'm originally from the philo/duncan falls area (up the muskingum towards zanesville) so always thought it would be cool to travel the river. . . but then i think about trying to work the lock system and have second thoughts :)
