Hi All

we just got a bayliner Capri with a west coast trailer.
the trailer has a pivot on the hitch and has hydraulic brakes.

ther is a retaining pin that passes through the main member about 2 ft from the hitch. The pin is stuck fast so we can’t open up the pivot in order to connect the hitch to the tow ball on the car.

im also of the opinion that when the arm is pivoted closed it actuates the brakes - either that or the brakes are seized.

is anyone familiar with the kind of trailer and can offer any advice as to how to remove the pin and how the braking works ?

A picture would help.
Are there any markings stamped on the Tongue?
Sounds like a seized up surge brake system.
When the tow vehicle brakes the weight of the trailer activates a piston in the tongue which activates the brakes.

I’ve tried adding pics but get a php error. Will try again soon.

this isn’t the brakes though it’s mainly the pin being seized in the pivot section that’s getting me. The surge break may also be seized too though

You tried soaking with penetrant and a 4 lb persuader with a punch ?

Air hammer is next.

Or weld a nut on top and impact wrench it.
If all else failed I'd take a sawzall to it.
Depends what arsenal you have for tools.

Sometimes, you are just better off cutting your losses and buying a new one. They are inexpensive. The problems you are having are likely just the beginning. If your master cylinder is also just as bad, its will be cheaper to just buy a new one.
