Ever drop your cell phone in the lake? I did.

I reached for the back of the boat to pull it in towards the dock, plop, fell out of my top pocket. I landed flat a slowly started to sink, I made a grab for it as it started to dissapear into the depths of the water and luckily grabbed it first try.
First thing I pulled the battery out and dried it out the best I could. When I got home blew it out with the air compressor and stuck it in some rice to help pull the rest of any remaining moisture out.

I put the battery back in the next day and IT WORKS!

All in the day of a another boating mishap.:)

YEP, twice. The first one I couldn't find. Oh well, needed a new one anyway.

The second one, ofund it after about five minutes. Did something similar. Took it apart as much as I could, got home and blew it out. Then I put it in a baggie with some bread and sat it upright. Took it out two days later, chareged it up and here I am a year later still using it.:D

Been there done that. The key is to get it dry before trying to power it up again. Otherwise it shorts and is dead.

Also the speaker and microphone can be destroyed by water and pressure so be careful blowing out with a compressor.

Opening Day of duck season I nailed a wood duck and when I went into the river after him i Forgot about my phone. I had it in the top pouch on my chest wadders:(. I put it in a bag with some crackers on my wind shield when I got home and it still works:).

The local lake association sponsors a "Dive The Lake" day each spring, where teams dive and bring up whatever junk they find. There are usually dozens of cell phones recovered. And an amazing pile of other items.
If you dunk a cell phone and it works afterward, you are lucky indeed.

Back in the days of pagers, mine came off my belt just as I got up to the toilet. Anyways, pulled it out of the CLEAN water, opened it up, took a hair dryer, put it back together, and it worked. The hairdryer took all of about 5 minutes. Mmmmm.... beepers and hair dryers.... those were the days.... :p

Re: Wet / cell phone

My first day with my first boat. We had just come back from our orientation run and the guy from the marina set up a plank for us to climb onto the dock. I lost my balance because the boat moved (i'm sticking with that story) and I stepped into the water. I figured since we were right next to the ramp...how deep could it be? Five feet....that's how deep. The guy from the marina told me to grab my phone and take the battery out right away. I let it dry out and it worked fine the next day.

I've bought two boats from the same guys since and he never let's me forget that day.:p

It doesn't work with salt water, or soapy water (ocean and washing machine), but it does with fresh water (lake and rain). Ask me how I know ...

Ruined 2 phones in 2 weeks with the ocean and the washing machine. All other times I have been a-okay with immediate battery removal, drying them out, and turning them on a couple days later.

Soak/flush the wet electronic device with methyl hydrate. (gasline anti freeze) I have saved every cell and even a digital camera. Some were wet for over a week. The camera was at the bottom of the lake for 30 mins and wasn't flushed for a day. It may take a couple washes but it always works. Try it on your next salty phone.

Mine has been in the toilet and a machine coolant tank over the last few years. Still working after a good drying.:)

I haven't gotten one wet yet.............yet.
The X-wife went through 3 in 18 months. She dropped two in the river, never been recovered. The last one she dropped in a cup of coffee.

I removed the battery and actually rinsed it in the sink. Laid it on a towel overnight and a bag of minute rice for a couple of days. Put the battery in and I believe she's still using it.

Re: Wet / cell phone

I work around swimming pools, so my phone has been in the drink a few times.

Still works great...

Pull the battery as soon as you can.. Put the phone in a zip lock bag and add uncooked rice. Let sit for about a day in the bad of rice.

c-phone the only thing that survided my sinking 2 weeks ago---see "sank my boat, boat gone" post.
Anyway my fishing partner who works for INTEL suggested that I dry my
C phone out by removing the battery and putting it inside a sealed container filled with rice. Did the trick---dried it out and it works fine.

At least I had a phone, even if everything else I owned is at the bottom of the Columbia River.

Saw your story, Ccook.

Lesson can be hard sometimes.
You and your friend are safe is the main thing.
