hi everyone , my friend just bought an older 10 foot boston whaler to fix up , it is only supposed to weigh 460 pounds . we took it to a weigh scale and it weighs 575 pounds . is there anyway we can separate the hull from the deck ? I am thinking there should be screws under the rub rail that we can take out and remove the deck from the hull . thanks .

The deck can't be lifted, as the two pieces (deck and hull) were bonded together by the foam (Unibond construction). Some have successfully dried Whaler with water infiltration, but it require drilling holes along the keel and at the transom base, and some time. You could use the search function on thoses two BW specialized forum:

generally speaking they can't be dried out.

But I'd question the weighing. 115# is a lot of water in a 10' hull--about 19 gallons. Picture 19 one gallon jugs or 4 five gallon jugs sitting in the boat.

Put it in the water and see how it floats as to its water lines at the hull. If it rides OK at rest, you probably don't have an issue.

Many of the old whaler guys are of the opinion that some wet foam, considering the volume between the hull and deck, just doesn't add enough weight to worry about.

120 # is not a concern ~~~ where the water is coming in to get it stopped is.

an older 10 foot boston whaler ..., it is only supposed to weigh 460 pounds . ...and it weighs 575 pounds

Humm, something's wrong here. There's no 10'; it's either a 9', a 11' or a 13', and the 9' has a dry weight of 165lbs, the 11' of 250lbs and the 13' of 320lbs.

So if you happen to have a 11' that weigh 575lbs, that's more than twice the published dry weight (325 lbs more)! Is is a BW or a clone? Any pics?
