wet rv

I've lived in a 24-foot RV for nearly 5 years. Never had a problem until now. I noticed a damp spot on the floor in the corner. Water leak. Found the culprit and replaced it, but the floor was in bad shape so I started pulling up the carpet etc. So far, I have had to remove a 3X4-foot section and I am still running into waterlogged insulation underneath the pressed wood floor. Is there any way to get ventilation to it without tearing out the whole underliner on the bottom of the RV? What I thought was a fairly simple fix has turned into a major project. I'm replacing all the bad wood with treated floor joists and plywood, but I can't exactly tear the floor out of the entire RV. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
billyt

Re: wet rv

Any floor repair or replacement will be a waste of time, effort, and money, unless you can locate the source of the water.
You will have to check all water supply and drain lines looking for a leak. Chances are there is a small leak somewhere around a window or on a roof seam or opening.

Had this problem with a large camper trailer.
Had to seal all seams and opening edges with a rubber caulk compound called VulChem. This stuff is great, but expensive. Then we double coated the entire roof with the white roofing sealer they make for campers and rv's.

Re: wet rv

The source of the leak was the city water supply connection. Apparently it was dripping down behind the wall. I replaced the entire assembly and the leak has stopped. I had to go around the whole RV this past spring doing exactly what you said. As far as I know, I've remedied the problem with the water--now what to do about the insulation? thanks for your help. blt

replace the insulation. Once it gets wet(soaked) it is done for.

Yep, replace everything you can. Hopefully before it all mildews.
