wet transom

I have a 1993 Lund Tyee Grand sport 1850. I was drilling holes for a transducer and noticed the wood shavings were damp and a couple drops of water came out. I searched wet transoms but they are all for fiberglass boats. What are options for aluminum transoms? Transom is solid and when I stuck a small drill bit in the hole the wood felt solid.
