wet vs dry 4.3 I/O winterizing

Greetings all, after reading the exhaustive posts on the wet vs dry winerizing, I just have a couple of questions. I recently wet winterized my regal with a kit and 2 gallons of low tox from the previous owner (and his help). When I tested the antifreeze now in the boat, it was protected only to 10 above which in Ohio the temp gets to zero easily. Was I reading that most are completely draining the water and not adding antifreeze to the thermo housing as the manual suggests? Also, someone mentioned that Don S. had a post from a Mercruiser service bulletin and I was not able to find that through a search. Any help at all would be appreciated.

My advice is drain all of the water! Read back through the long post, There is a wise man there that said, "Air doesn't freeze"....That's really good advice...If you read that post again, I'm pretty sure it outlines the proper procedure....Don't wait till it gets too cold....JK

Lugster, two gallons of A-F is not enough to fill the block and manifolds of that motor. You need 4 gal to do that. Don't forget that the power steering cooler, block and manifolds will retain water after the motor is drained. Some say the water retained by the block and manifolds is not enough to cause freeze damage, but I always poured the antifreeze into the block and manifolds with the plugs out, until I saw the A-F emerge from the drains. Then I replaced the plugs and filled the manny and block. Dump some A-F down the raw water hose and watch how much water comes out of the outdrive water intake. You will be shocked how much water remained in the PS cooler, after draining.
