Hello!

I have an old Johnson which has served the family well since 78, but late this summer it gave up, the lower unit was broken (hopping out of gear) and it was not possible to open it without destroying the lower unit (has been in salt-water every summer since 78 )... Sad but true, it has been running great all these years, but now it is replaced with a new Yamaha 50 4-stroke, running great, but no soul!

Unfortunately I had changed the PowerPack and ignition-coils a few months earlier.

Anyway it seems hard to sell it (anybody interested located in Sweden?) so I figured I will save some usefull parts ant get rid of the rest... So my question is if what shall I save (I don´t have room for the motor in the garage... )? I´m thinking of:

- Starter-motor
- Ignition coils
- Power-pack
- Carburators
- Fuel-pump (rebuilt last summer)
- Ignition relay

I would save / sell anything on it that is in good shape, or sell the whole thing as a "parts motor"

Years ago I would have saved ALL the parts you listed. Nowadays,I would save none.Unless I had my eye on another outboard that they fit.

30 years ago I was a Toyota Mechanic. Now I have too many defunct parts in my cellar to get rid of.

Even if it was a GOOD running eng.It wouldn't fetch you but a couple hundred dollars at best.If you were to post the parts on ebay or the like, the little you might get ,pprobaly wouldn't be worth the hassle to remove the part, store it,pack it and ship it.Of course ,someone that needed parts for an old eng would be happy to get em,but I doubt the person is likely to need the parts in the near enough future for you to store them.I say you did a good thing replacing it with a 4 stroke Yamaha.Time to give the old eng.to a recycle center,or an outboard salvage yard .Lastly, might make a good anchor.

I am fighting problems galore with my electrical system on a 1978 25 hp Johnson. I noticed you have a list of parts you are trying to decide what to do with that I could use. I'm Not sure if they would fit my motor or not or if shipping them to the US would make it too expensive, but I thought I would ask if you would be interested in selling any of the parts?

Thanks

All the electricals and the propellor if in good nick will sell on eBay IMO.the bigger parts such as the power head you would be better off to try and sell locally...

OMC 35-40 hp motors are still plentiful in the UK so there is bound to be folk interested in parts....auction on eBay you might even be pleasantly surprised by what folk will pay for OMC parts

Regards LLB

P.S is the motor long or short shaft if it is short shaft I would be interested in the drive shaft.....

Hello!

Bashman, I´d love to sell the spare-part to you, but unfortunately it will be a hassle to ship it to you, due to customs etc. I have shipped things back and fourth to the US at work and it will be more expensive than for you to buy the parts new online unfortunately.

Lubosleftboot, unfortunately it is a long-shaft...

Regards, Jimbo

Hi Jimbo - where in Sweden are you - I am located in Denmark. Might be able to use a couple of parts from it.

Hi G DANE,

The motor is a my fathers place in Ronneby, about 200km from Malmö... I have the fuel-tank, wires, controlbox, ignition-switch, cabling and an 2-year old prop which is in nice shape too (electric start) if you are interested.
