Is this like a resistor or a fusible link? I looked at just getting a replacement harness but they’re like 50 bucks. Is there any harm in just patching it with a piece of wire to get me out on the water?

Your motor comes up with Delco EST distributor and there would be noting special about the wires. The item in the pic is just how the wire was spliced together and sealed

That harness is special. It has an inductor in it. Not sure what purpose the inductor serves, but I would have to think that Delco had a reason to include it. All of the EST setups have the inductor, but maybe it’s only needed in certain situations? You could just use plain wire and see if something burns up?

I have never seen an inductor or anything else on the Delco Voyager (EST) you buy as a kit. My 502 MPI has the EST and it doesn't have anything on the wires feeding

Don't understand why it needs a magnetic field generated

Are you sure your kit doesn't have one? This is the harness that connects the distributor to the coil. There are 2 wires in it and one of the wires has the inductor in it.

MerCruiser calls it a filter, Volvo and Delco call it a inductor in their wiring diagrams.

I don't think it's there to generate a magnetic field. My guess is that it's to smooth out spikes and surges.

If this harness is ordered from Volvo or MerCruiser it will be in there. Iv'e had to replace a few harnesses because this part failed.

Should know better then to doubt you ever, your correct, sorry.

There is something under the shrink tubing about 3/8 long, small little thing. So this "means to me" its a ferrite choke and would be used for noise suppression. If it was an inductor, the wire would be wrapped around a core rod, being a single wire.

The Voyager doesn't provide it. Can get a choke on ebay for $1 but might be larger, so even more suppression, and may be able to find a smaller one.

Don't see anything burning up if its not there, miss maybe on a EFI motor
