What 12 foot boat is good to go with 9.9 Jonhson LONGSHAFT

Hi Guys,

Might be a simple question but I am wondering what kind of 12 foot boat is best to go with a longshaft 9.9 Johnson? I'm not sure how to tell if the prop on the motor would be too deep on any given aluminum or jon boat (or anything else).

Would any 12 foot aluminum or jon boat work with the longshaft? What would I need to check?

Thanks a bunch...

Most 12ft tinnies have 15 inch (short shaft motor app) transom. Arould these parts we use a, Tape Measure.

I'm guessing you got a good deal on that motor and now you want to find a boat to fit it that you can haul in the back of a pickup, I don't think this is going to happen for a 12 footer.

You can make a jack plate for the transom of a 12' boat so your LS 9.9 will work.

Ok, Thanks. What kind of boat would you suggest to use with the long shaft I have? I think all I need to do is to line up the ledge (not sure what you call that) above the water discharge port so that it is flush with bottom of the boat (within an inch is what I read somewhere). Is that correct? I'll stop looking at the 12 footers then and look for something else...besides aluminum and jon boats, would there be other kinds of boats suited to the longshaft that could be used to maybe fish from?

Thanks

Thanks Bob_VT,

It is a 10EL74 and after looking at the service manual (bought the motor and ordered the manual which I got a week ago), noticed at the specifications page it says -> 5" longer (20" transom).

A 9.9 hp engine seems a little small for a 14 foot aluminum boat. Not sure about a 14 foot jon boat though...

The thread on the home made jack plate looks good so if I can't fit the motor with an existing 20"transom I'll do that.

Thanks again!
