I went to West Marine and picked up a de-carbonizing agent. They did not carry the highly recommended sea foam so I bought what they suggested and mixed it per the instructions. After running at wot or what seemed like it and half a tank of gas later, Ursula picked up serious rpm's and speed. Before the decarb she would top out at 25 according to GPS. After she hit 40 and has the pep my '05 two stroke Johnson had. I'm sold on the decarb thing. Thank you to those that suggested it

Re: What a difference

Not only can you get increased performance from a proper decarb, I've read from some knowledgeable folks that excess carbon can actually cause irreparable damage to piston skirts etc, - with high-dollar repair costs.. Congrats on your 'new' motor!

Re: What a difference

I have been a firm believer in annual decarbs for a while now.

I have raised comrpession as high as 20 psi per cylinder with a proper decarb. Rings are not all that effective when stuck and carboned.
