What a long strange summer it's been

Hey everybody!!

Man, this has been one strange summer. At the beginning of the summer the kids all got P.O.'ed at us and took off. It was soooo nice to have the house all to ourselves. We quickly got used to our little "two-topia." Then the kids came back, we bought them cars and got them squared away.

Then I decided to buy a pool hall, but that deal fell through. I have a DEEP feeling that it went that way for a reason and that God was looking out for me. Thanks God!

Then my dad had a ruptured aortic artery. He was touch and go several times but made a totally miraculous recovery. Actually he is still in recovery mode, but his condition is clear evidence of the power of the Lord.

The day my dad went to the hospital to have surgery, I sold my boat. That was a hectic and crazy day! I was very upset about my dad, and none too happy about my boatless situation. I pouted about it for a few weeks and my little wife said I could a buy a new boat. See, the old one was a fiberglass skiff, it was really a wet boat. Ms SoulWinner don't like getting splashed all the time, so that is why I sold it. If she doesn't want to ride in my boat, then neither do I. So I bought a 20' Pontoon boat with a 115 Merc 4 stroke. I pick it up next week. The guy is bringing it up from Venice FL to I-75 and I-10 to meet me on his way to Georgia to pick up some boats. I can't wait!

My Process serving business went in the toilet, then came back to life. I still have no explanation for that. I am actually making money with it now.

Also this summer we opened and closed a thrift store. We both got real tired of moving furniture.

And strangest of all, I got a New King James Version Bible. Ever since I got saved I read the KJV only, because that was what the preacher said. Well, that has been a long time ago, and I got tired of the archaic verbiage, and I love my new bible. I never thought I would read anything but the 1611 KJV, but I really love this new one.

It's been an interesting, rewarding, bizarre, frightening and strange summer. I am ready for life to slow back down, and get back to normal...whatever that is. One thing that I think will persist from this summer is that my whole perspective on life has changed. Today I am more appreciative of what life has to offer than I ever was before.

Other things I did this summer was I became a Distinguished Lifetime Member of the NRA, and I joined the American Legion. I learned to go into Sams Club and not spend three hundred bucks. I replaced the muffler on my Land Cruiser myself. I started spending more time with my parents and my brother. You know, I think this summer has been just about the most rewarding period in my life. Is it normal for this stuff to happen when your 38?

SW, It sure does sound like it was an eventful summer. All seems pretty good except for your dad. About the new Bible.....well sometimes seeing something you have seen before but from a slightly different angle can really be pretty cool.

Gotta agree its been a stange one for this family as well. Last year we camped and boated every weekend. Not as good this year. Haven't had the boat in due to major repair (just about ready though)or camped out. Our kids maybe out of the house, but they keep coming back. They say it is to visit and we say its to borrow money.

Its good to hear your dad is getting better. Believe me, life is different without your folks around for support.

Hopefully the rest of the season will be better. Keep hanging in there SW!

SW, at http://www.biblegateway.com/ there are 20 versions of the Bible, all text online. You can read any passage in the New King James Version, and then switch to the KJV, and then switch to the 21st Century KJV, and then switch to any other version, all while staying at the current passage.

Summer has been strange... but I wouldn't say it's slow... just the opposite... speeding on by.

Soulwinner, I'm 50. You are just experiencing life my friend. There's always high and low times. God blesses us. God allows testing and trial, and sometimes our poor decisions bring trial on ourselves. One thing we know for sure is He's there no matter what.

My brother sent me this and I pass it on to you...

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. The conversation soon turned into
complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain-looking, some expensive, and some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

After all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:
"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and
stress.

"Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases, it's just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups...and then began eyeing each other's cups.

"Now consider this: Life is the coffee, and the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, and the
type of cup we have does not define nor change the quality of life we live.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us."

SW, my friend, do tell --- what's your secret? 8)

I must agree with you that this summer has be heck. I'm currently in a state of happy exhaustion. With the purchase of our boat last January; I've been entertaining MUCH more than usual... somehow I became everyone's favorite person to hang out with. :D

I'm not going to say I can't wait for winter, I HATE winter - that means I can't be on the water. I don't know how you southerners do it with summer year round :D

Yep, been a crazy summer. Glad your dad is recovering.

If you want to download a good platform for an e-Bible and add a bunch of neat translations (English versions and other languages as well) go to http://www.e-sword.net/ . It is done by a missionary organization and is completely free. Enjoy.
