I removed the 1995 Mercury 75 from my boat for a hull estoration about a month ago. I also removed the controls, cables, ignition switch, etc. from my center console and piled them in the garage.
Decided to get a new motor and sell my old one, so I want to be able to start it up.
I put it on an engine stand and I plugged the wiring harness, jumped the two yellow wires that hook up to the shifter, and hooked up a battery and fuel.
It turns over fine, but won't catch and fire up. I had it running just a few weeks ago before I took it off the boat.
I did not hook up any of the other wires from the wiring harness. The boat did not have a kill switch connected. The black with yellow stripe wire has a cap on it. The ignition cable has a purple and white wire and a brown and blue wire which are not connected. I also did not snug the wiring harness back into the metal clasp that holds it since this is a pain to do.
My guess is I am missing a ground or something.....any thoughts?
Thanks!
