What are D-Shackles used for?

I was just given a box of marine hardware by a friend. Included in the box are a lot of d-shackles like the ones shown here:http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=23012F

I think these shackles are used for anchoring, but how so?

Common use is attaching a chain to an anchor. Take the pin out, slide the U trough a chain link, then place the open end of the U up to the end of the anchor, and insert the pin connecting the anchor to the U. You can send me one as payment for this answer.

I put one on the bow eye of my jetski it is easier to hook up and unhook
