What are the two orange o-rings for in the raw water rebuld kit? on a Alpha 1 G2

Model # for the kit is Quicksilver water pump repair kit. $817275Q 4<br /><br />Its a 1995 Alpha 1 G2. They in the picuure in the manuel just sit on top the stainless steel housing but I did not remove them when I removed the lower unit? Were they missing, fall off, break away? If I put them there the pump does not seen to fit back in well? <br /><br />There is a coupling on the copper pipe with one o-ring seal that does not look like it comes off. Does it? Should it? And the plastic copleing on the copper pipe loose and can rattle around, should it? Not the bottle part with the seal above it.<br /><br />Could this have been one of my cooling issues?<br />Thanks

They S--T--R--E--A--T--C--H over the splined shaft on the ujoint shaft. They ride inside the gimbal bearing.<br />You should also have one more that you can't find a place for. It goes in the third groove of that shaft. (IF it has that groove.)<br />That kit is used for ALL Alpha drives, not just the Gen II.<br /><br />Do you by any chance have a manual for this job, or do you intend to take it apart several times to get it right?<br />If you don't have a manual, heres the Merc manual, online.<br /><br /> http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14cover.pdf

I think there are two orings in the pump kit that go for the water tube seal. they are about the size of a quater.<br /> the orange coating will rub off, the other orings that go on the drive shaft are in the outdrive mounting kit.<br /> the genII pumps use a short plastic coupler with orings in the ID to seal between the tube and the pump housing.

Good catch rodbolt, I sure screwed that one up. I was thinking the mounting kit for the outdrive.<br />Here is a picture of that pump, the orings are item #30 and they go inside item 29.<br />Be careful installing the seal #25 use the plastic installer when installing it on the drive shaft.<br /><br />

ya I forgot all about the face seal. it must be installed correctly.

Done. For a change everything I did on the boat went well. Lower unit back on. I also removed the intake/exhaust manifold and riser and no bolts broke! Good day. <br /><br />Tuesday I'll be shopping for a new manifold and riser.
