Just for fun

1) 1984 Cavalier Type 10 - burned almost as much oil as gas and that was one of its good points
2) 1980 Chevette - My first car - primer grey on the outside with a red interior that had faded to pink. Especially gutless since it actually had an automatic trans.
3) 1995 Chrysler Cirrus - wife bought it new in 1995, Beautiful car with all the options it was recalled every 2nd week and when we sold it 2 years later it was worth about 1/4 of what we paid for it (Overpriced first year and folks caught on to the crappiness of the "cloud" cars pretty quickly)

1) 1969 Ford Custom sedan - my first car! - had chronic carb problems, but a fun car when it ran for the kid that I was when I had it! 302 V8 with a 3-speed stick on the column; black vinyl interior that seared your skin in the summer.

2) 1983 Ford Crown Vic - practically lived in the shop and had no guts at all even with its V8

3) Yet to come, I guess

1 - 1979 Mercury Cougar - Gutless gas pig. Spent most of her life in the shop.

2 - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Always in the shop. Got rid of it when the warrantee ran out.

3 - 2006 Pontaic Vibe AWD - Got this when I got rid of the Grand Cherokee. Took a perfectly good Toyota and put GM parts on it...POS.

1992 Ford Tempo- Car had 100k miles and looked decent. No heat, used water, no power and that little 2.3L only gave 22 MPG. Junked it

1974 VW Super Beetle- Bought for a cool car to drive. Rain would kill the ignition system, cold wet rotbox really. Sold it

1998 Ford Ranger ECSB 4.0L 4x4 auto. Nice truck but it was beat when I got it. 1 sunny day power steering hose blew and lubricated the windshield, and I hit a telephone pole because of the glared window in the sun. No tickets or anything but I got to test out the airbags. Totaled it, and it shifted the whole box/cab on the frame

-1976 Datsun (Nissan) Pick up. Never ran right from day one. Plus, i swear you could hear it rust.
-1982 Toyota Celica. Couldn't keep a head gasket on the 22R.
-1976 Chevrolet Chevette. Yes, it was an automatic. It did have one redeeming quality. It didn't have enough power to spin the rear wheels, even on ice and snow. It would go anywhere.

All purchased NEW.

1987 Chevy Celebrity - would have paid money to watch it sail over a cliff. It wasn't a bad driver, but little stuff EVERYWHERE went schmootz on that car. Spent more time under the hood than in the driver's seat.

2000 Pontiac Montana - Anything that should have been simple on that car was complex (changing a battery for example). The interior was plasticky and cheaply made. Stuff constantly failed and got exhausting. The engine ran pretty consistently (and actually got pretty good mileage for a car it's size) but it never seemed to run smooth.

We haven't really had a bad one outside of those two...

Did you have to remove the drivers side wheel and fender liner like the one on my wifes 95 cirrus?

Chrysler LOVED to do that with batteries. In the later years, they put doors in the fender liners but still.

No - but I heard about that on the Cirrus. Montana wasn't quite that bad, but you did have to remove the relay center and a cross member from the engine bay. The first time I did it it took me 3 hours of figuring out what had to come off in what order. Didn't realize I'd need a manual to change a battery.

Re: What are the worst 3 vehicles you have ever owned.

I've owned a lot of clunkers but since most were near the end of their lives when I got them I can't hold it against them.

'89 Chev Beretta. Bought it for my wife, nice looking car but that one was cursed. It's problems played out like a flood car but it was in way to nice of shape to have been sunk.
'06 Chev Venture XL AWD. Bought it to resell. I put about 100 miles on it and seemed like a nice van but they must have had a bad reputation because nobody wanted to buy it.

Re: What are the worst 3 vehicles you have ever owned.

I've only had 1 vehicle I'd put on a crappy vehicle list. It was a 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 305 V8 and a 4 barrel carb that made a massive 150 HP. It wasn't really what I wanted as my first new car but my parents convinced that it was a good choice. It was an OK driver but I never liked it that much and sold it to my parents 3 years later when I got my IROC Camaro. The Pontiac up and died about 2 years later with not much more than 50K on the odometer. Since then, I've owned 3 BMW's, 2 f-150's, an Explorer. a Suburban, 2 Hondas and a Toyota Tacoma and have been satisfied with all of them. My current fleet consists of the 2 Hondas, a BMW and the Tacoma.

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 - 4 transmissions in 70k miles, nuff said.
2001 Volvo s60 2.4t - Everything on that car broke/failed. Paid $21k for it in '04, got $1200 for it on trade in in '09.

1. 1959 English Ford Anglia. Needed complete rebuild at 40K. Burned valves every 10K.

2. 1955 Cadillac. Was shot when I bought it to drive while my Mercedes was getting a new (warranty) engine. Miserable barge.

3. 1985 Mercedes 300D. Bought it on the internet (REALLY stupid). Had to spend another 4 grand to get it drivable.

1979 Saab 900 --Thought that all Swedish cars were good.
1990 3/4T Chevrolet Suburban. Bought new. Crappy brakes no power
1999 3/4T Chevrolet Suburban. Bought new. Crappy brakes. Piston slap noise when cold. Sold at 20K miles to buy....

....my 2001 3/4T Suburban, bought new, which was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned.

I bought and sold cars when I was in college. There were a few of them that would make the list if I kept them. That late 70's Oldsmobile Diesel would make the list for sure.

Y'know I really can't either? I don't recall ever thinking "I gotta get rid of this pos!"

Sure I had some clunkers but they were "winter cars" for Buffalo centuries ago. Check the gas, fill the oil ... 'Member I had a '66 Chevelle that was so rusty the fuel tank fell off after crossing some railroad tracks. Lemme tell ya that'll surprize ya!

Some family owned turds:

Yugo.
Dodge Aspen 'woody' wagon with 5 spd
Datsun B210
'74 Vega wagon

84 Chrysler Laser. I got it in college from a kid in college who's dad put literally thousands into it but was getting a brand new Camaro for graduation. It ran perfect and never had a problem because everything was replaced but was a pile of rust on wheels. If you stepped down on the rear passenger carpet, you hit the road since there was no metal left but it was a cool looking car.

1978 Cutlass Supreme had the most gutless v8 ever made and was a pile of rust except the front clips never rusted.

1987 Pontiac Bonneville loved the car but bought it right after it was freshly repainted and was a pile of rust in a couple years

There is a general theme that the cars I had from the 70's and 80's didn't hold up to the elements at all here in MN.

The one car I ever had that would refuse to rust anywhere at all was an 89 Chevy Beretta. I could've stored it in a tub of saltwater and no rust. If nothing else, they finally figured out how to manufacture cars that can hold up to MN winters. They still rust even a couple years old, but not nearly as bad.

JKUST, I just think they changed what they put on the roads now. I have three cars over 8 years old right now and none of them have significant rust issues, even though they sit out..

My contributions are..
My dads 79 malibu wagon - 4bbl on a 305 with a undersized tranny. wnet out twice before my dad and I replaced it with a bigger one from the the junk yard
79 Pontiac sunbird - gutless wonder rear wheel drive - although it was very solid and protected me from a hit by an early 70's impala
76 Mustang II - even more of a gutless wonder RWD - would not start below 20 degrees. hard to make out in. But where there is a will there is a way

Thats it.
