What are these holes for?

I have an Alpha 1 GenII, and I’m wondering what these holes are in the drive and the bell housing. The gasket covers both holes, and the holes don’t line up, but they look like they’re there for a reason.

Maybe a machining locator hole, thats my guess. Not used for anything

That's what they are. Called 'indexing' holes.
