What are your must have items to have onboard

What are the must have items you need to have a good trip and be legal in your state?

I just added a vhf radio of some type as a must have.
GPS is also a must have getting lost is just no fun.

** I stored a six pack of fresh water also.
Water Water Every where and not drop to drink.

Aside from Coast Guard required equipment (pfds, fire extinguisher, flares, etc.) my list goes:

GPS
VHF Radio
Cooler with plenty of water
Towels
Sunscreen
Waterproof storage box

and duct tape! At least two rolls, that stuff comes in handy!

correct anchor, chain and rode (line) is #1.
In tidal flats, shove pole is next. IN any event have a paddle.
Get a compass even if you have GPS, and learn how to use it.
Bailer if open cockpit; hand pump if not.
a good tool box with extra everything in it.
spare fuel/water seperator, in a zip lock, w/ filter wrench.
quart of oil

As well as the items listed, I also carry spare fuses, spare prop, booster/jumper box, emergency belt, spot light, warm dry clothes. Also, I have a Volvo so I also carry a spare impeller. (i can change mine on the water...and have) I even carry an extra anchor bumpers and line.

I also carry a heavy tow rope. I don't trust something designed to pull 3 otr 4 people on a tube to pull a 4,000# boat plus gear.
On an O/B, don't forget spare spark plugs.

add lower unit gear oil, Stars and Stripes to the equipment above...plus Women, tunes, super soakers, and pool noodles.

i keep the following:

telescoping boat hook
4 sections of 50' line (heavy line, not ski line)
4 dock lines, 2 fenders
fishing license
ski flag
tools
spare drain plug
sunscreen
some cash
VHF radio
CD's!!!
trash bags
EZ-UP
oars

and, we never leave the dock without a case of water on board.

im sure theres more, but thats all i can think of right now. It seems like it takes forever to get ready for a trip sometimes lol.

Aside from the manditory safety equipment, I have:
VHF
Spare prop/pin/cotter pin
Spare points/condenser
Extra hose clamps/zip ties
Fuses
Engine oil
Fuel filter
Spare engine belt
Spare drain plugs (one threaded, one rubber)
Duct tape (if it moves and it shouldn't)
WD40(if it doesn't move and should)
Small socket set
Misc. screwdrivers
Pliers/vice grips
Multi-meter
Crimp connector kit with crimper/stripper


I need to add a couple of lengths of strong tow rope and Bikini babes.
