My family has 2 new to us boats. My parents have a 17 foot Star Craft and my wife and I have a 15 foot Eagle. As a family we plan to take the boats our near sisters creek in Jacksonville, Fl. I wanted to stay out to see the fireworks but do not have my Nav lights working and am a little hesitant to take the boat out at night. Like I said, I am very new to boating.

What are your plans for the Holiday?

Taking the 17' Chris Craft out to Beer Can Island in Tampa Bay to watch the fireworks! I also had an issue with my nav light but finally tracked down the bad ground. Cannot wait for my first July 4th on the water.

Taken the boat out tomorrow and on the 11th when the parents and sisters come to town so we might sit back and relax that weekend

I like to stay off the water during major holidays too. Too many idiots and drunks running around. I may end up launching for a SAR or two, though - it just depends on what happens and where.

If i get the chance, I will probably watch some fire works from the boat. There is a casino near me, which is located on a canal (all of our casinos, except one, are on boats), that does fireworks on the 4th. There is a nearby boat launch so I can to the appropriate canal easily and quickly. Its a great place to watch.

cmchesse, i did not realize you were from Jacksonville. sister's creek is a great facility, we use it with the Chris Craft, when salt water fishing. it is a long trec for there to town, an stay near the channel, there are some shallows. as for the 15 footer 4th of July night, i would not. and don't overload the 17'. they also restrict the waters in the fireworks show area, no anchoring from the Hart Bridge, to the Fuller Warren. when it is over the river becomes, a blender. people can't wait and don't respect other boats, the is a wake coming from every direction. and a race to every ramp in town. to get down to Brass tacks, Downtown Jax, is dangerous on holidays.

We'll be sitting out in Lake Harris watching the fireworks from three different cities on the 4th. Then pack up and head to Daytona Saturday for the Coke Zero 400 race.

We'll be visiting friends who have a house on a cove on a big lake in Minnesota, and who throw a big party on the 4th for their friends. Every 4th, that cove gets filled by three or four hundred boats, all rafting up. Mostly teenagers and young adults. I'm bringing my binoculars and my ultralight outfit and will spend some time fishing off their dock and watching the party. A guy never knows what he'll see out there. :D

Oh, yeah...for some reason, fishing off that dock is always spectacular during this event. I think all the boats send the fish to the shoreline. I've caught some pretty amazing fish, despite all the commotion and stuff.

Big scalloping weekend begins Tuesday, July 1st. Taken the 19' Renken CC out of Homosassa, joining the "fleet" and will be scooping up some morsels. Preliminary reports say they are close in (4'-6') this year so makes for a good time for all. Even the young uns have a ball chasin em down. Broiled, garlic butter and fresh key lime juice; yummy:D
