my plug was fouled my first time out so today i checked the fuel filter thats on the powerhead fuel pump. This was brand new 3 months ago,i did pump all the old gas out using the primer bulb !!! and added 5 gallons new gas, guess i did not get all cause it did this to my new filter after sitting 3 months... <br /><br />question is what else damaged did this bad gas do to my 200hp 1983 merc ?<br /><br />think i should buy a new fuel pump again ?<br /><br />drain carbs and clean mabey ?<br /><br />UNDER BOAT IF DOES NOT WORK ABOVE....<br /><br />THANK YOU THANK YOU

I BELIEVED THAT IS CALLED VARNISH, I HAVE TO CLEAN WITH WD40 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT

well i dont think that bad gas will waist an engine but you might have to rebuilt the carbs and clean the plugs but you might be lucky and just have a pluged filter.you will never get all the fuel out.you might want to use a fuel stabilizer if your boat only sits for a few months you wont have to try to drain the fuel out.

You probably didn't hurt your motor, but you may want to try an in-line fuel filter between the tank and motor. I use the clear plastic automotive type and can see any crud building up in the filter. This will more or less keep straining the fuel until all the crud is out. Keep a spare in-line filter on hand in case the old one plugs up.
