I use the Castrol from wal mart. You can use any brand as long as its designed for outboards with TC-W3. If i find the synthetic on sale i use it. It smokes less.

Re: What brand oil are you using

I had some Johnson oil I was using and ran out. Lately I been using the walmart tech4 brand in a gallon. I used it in my weedeater and a 2 stroke mower and it did not smoke much and since it is outboard rated I tried it, it works well. It is very cheap. I'd rather pick up some synthetic though or a blend. I've had people (actually a Merc dealer) tell me the pennzoil is the worst oil to use, but I know a lot of guys with 200+HP V6 that use the the full synthetic exclusively so I don't know. I figure with a stock non injected motor any good marine rated oil is likely good enough to do the job. I mix about 17oz for 6gal, just a little extra in case. I've also found many performance people who say that high rpm and high load are when you need more oil, so I'd say if you beat it harder use better oil.
