Is the prop gonna be what makes the difference on the front of the boat coming up to reduce drag after trimming up or the jackplate? I have moved my jackplate from one end to the other and I can't get the nose of this boat up out of the water and therefore cant get the boat to go any faster. Im turning 5500 rpms and running only 47 mph with a 140 hp evinrude on the back of a 17.5' cajun. I'm not even sure if this thing needs a jackplate. It had it on there whenever i got it. The transom already angles back a good bit.

rpms seem good, speed is reasonable, ever weighed the boat? (have no clue what a cajun boat is designed like, but if it has foam floatation built in, you could be pushing an extra half ton of water soaked foam, plus whatever else you take for gear)

no i haven't weighed it. haven't thought about that. i don't haul much. just a tacklebox and 3 or 4 poles and myself. not sure if floatation is built in either.

What year is your motor? If it is 1983 or older then you are running right at max.......if it is a 1984 or newer then you "might" get a touch more out of it. The hull also plays a big factor

Try a bow lifting propeller with 'raked' blades. The most common by OMC/BRP is called Raker. Blades that are at 90 degrees to the shaft lifts the stern, blades that are 'bendt' back (raked) lifts the bow. Rakers are delivered in even pitch numbers, 18, 20,.... A 19" std prop normally equals an 18" Raker in pitch and rpm.

Re: What brings the nose up

Bow lift is determined by type of hull and amount of trim. Some boats cannot be trimmed very much because of the style of the hull. Some can be trimmed a whole lot.

A raked prop will help some, but if the bow cannot be lifted enough to porpoise, by trimming the motor, a raked prop will not change that.

What year 140? What is the engine mounting height? The best prop for this setup if a crossflow is the 4 blade Solas......

A picture of the transom/motor would be worth a thousand words.
