what can i use to replace old throttle on 64 evinrude.

i have a 64 evinrude that has to have a new throttle control, old controls are no good. it's an electric shift so i need to know if i have to find one from an old evinrude or if they have new replacements somewhere. i need help, thanks.

Check eBay. Stuff like this crops up now and then. Evinrudes used pushbuttons for manual shifting, separate from the throttle. Johnsons used a single lever throttle with the shift switch built into the movement like the newer setups. Either control will work on either motor, so do a search for both (keywords evinrude remote control and johnson remote control). I'm afraid that nothing modern will work for you and replacement shift switches are awfully hard to find and forbiddingly expensive if you do.

bigmac,try looking up johnson marine parts.com i called the guy a couple of months ago and he had new replacement button switches and a used control box.see if you can find his web or phone# and he might be able to help you.i have a 1969 115 jonny and found a new throttle cable$38 not to bad.you also might want to call a few marine salvage yards and see if they can help ya. good luck...................<br /> <br /> ***1971 18'winner 1969 115 jonny***
