What can i use to replace the plastic guide washer on a 115 merc shift linkage?

I just found a new bracket for the shift cable guide and I cant find the little plastic square washer that goes on before the wingnut looking washer??
Would any plastic piece do you figure?
its part (52100 WEAR PLATE, LINK ROD) and no longer made......
Also what kind of grease do you use on the guide for it to slide with ease?

My thought would be a brass washer from the hardware store. And I would use some lithium grease...But experts will chime in....

thats the little bugger right there... Part 31. As far as i can tell its just a square plastic piece thats used as an aid in sliding..... and after 5 days looking for the bracket and a 3 hour drive out of town to get it..... Something else HAS to work...
