I have a 1983 25 hp Mariner built by yamaha. It's a tiller motor I want to use on a 10' hydroplane. Do I need to stick with a Mariner control box? Will a single handle work or do I need a 2 handle control? Is after market ok? I don't need electric start or choke.

Get a hydroplane control............ it is a squeeze control that shuts down if you let it go. Get hold of some of the small boat racing clubs for info.

You mean it was a tiller motor but no more.

I'm not interested in the dead man throttle.

Then buy what you want to. You probably have no idea what a 25 will do on a 10' hydro but, when things go wrong they are never in slow speeds.

Good luck.

It still has the tiller on it. I use the motor on my duck hunting jon boat during duck season and I want to put it on the hydro during the summer. I'm not going to be racing it more like going out early sunday morning before the big boats get out on the river. I'm going to raise the front deck, dash and mount a padded seat with a back so I can sit more comfortably. I expect it to be quick.
