I would like to build my own heat exchanger to cool my boat engine. Does anyone know the haet exchange capacity In BTU/ HR needed to cool a 5.0 liter???
Re: What cooling capacity is needed to cool 5.0 liter engine
Rough cut:
1 HP = 2450 BTU/HR. So a 260 HP 5.0 is putting out 260*2450 = 1911000 BTU/HR. Figure its 25% efficient, that means 3*1911000 is being lost, figure it's all waste heat, means you need about 6 million BTU/HR cooling capacity at max power.
