What could it be?

Ok I have decided that it is not a fuel problem. I have a 1993 Evinrude 175HP. I can take it out on the water start it and it will run for around 2 minutes and then shutoff, then it won't even try to start until I let it sit for a good hour or so and then it will fire right back up and shut off again. I am not getting any warning beeps or anything. I am really confused on this. Any Suggestions?

Sounds like a restricted fuel supply to me, Boater.

What happens if you pump the primer bulb while it is running?

Could also be a hot failure in your ignition system (works fine cold, warm it up and it quits).

Try pulling the bonnet and heating the ignition system with a hair dryer while it idles. If that kills it, get some cold spray at Radio Shack and try cooling the parts until it works again. That should ID a hot-sensitive part.

Could be evil spirits, though. Check with your local witch doctor.

Once the boat shuts off it won't even try to start, that is why I am thinking it is not a fuel problem and leaning more towards a spark problem. Pumping the bulb does nothing while it is running still shuts off.

What do you mean, "won't even try to start"?

Are you trying to say the starter will not energize to turn the motor over when you turn the key on to start, or are you indicating that the motor rotates with the starter but does not fire? Big difference.

It cranks fine just don't fire up, like there is no spark. What could be heating up to take the spark away in the 2 minutes that it runs for?

Hi, again, boater.

Your ignition system is loaded with semiconductor devices. If one of these, in the powerpak for example, fails when hot you will lose all or part of your spark until it cools.

Did you read my post? I told you how to find it.
