What creative things have you done with excess resin?

I usually end up mixing up more resin than I need for whatever I'm doing. Then I find myself trying to come up with a good use for a few cups of resin that is about to kick.

I've made the "cup pouring into a cup" where you pour the contents from one cup into another just as it gets too thick to pour and you end up with one cup in the air and a stream of resin pouring into the other.

What have you done?

I have a big blob sitting next to my shed...does that count as creative? :)

I like to make smoke and fire with my old resin by catalyzing it at about 25%. Makes a noxious smell as well. Does that count? Chief Chief

Make a root beer float out of it. I had some epoxy that went off one time. I quickly poured it into a 32 oz soft drink cup and put a straw in it as it hardened. It ended up foaming over the side of the cup, down the side onto the bench. After letting it harden, I placed it on my office desk where it became quite the converstation piece, especially when little kids came in and would always ask if "they could have one"!!!

Those are all good answers!

Here is my latest. Did this last night for my daughter while she was helping me cast some pieces.

I like that Mark. Very abstract. We should start to call you Markangelo.

I also see that you have discovered the indespensible 3 oz paper Dixie cup. I use a pencil to make resin/catalyst marks on the outside. Face the markings toward a lite then fill to the appropriate mark which is visible from inside the cup. Here is one I just used. This way I am pretty well able to match the amount of resin to the small job. The first line is for the catalyst, the balance are for resin.

The last time I needed some, I actually had trouble finding them. All I could find were the 5 oz waxed cups. Finally I found one box in the market.

Yeah, those cups are the best for mixing up small amounts. Sometimes I will 'slosh' the left over mix around the inside of the cup before it hardens. Then you end up with a nice hard plastic cup that can be used over and over.

I like these Dixie cups because they don't seem to have much if any wax coating like the regular paper cups. Waxed cups can shed some wax into your mix if you scrape the sides while stiring. Plus, when the resin kicks off, they leave wax rings on what ever it is resting on.
