Removed the 6 screws, unbolted bottom bolt inside leg. must be a hidden bolt or something????? 64 40hp johnson supereahorse

Is there a removable trim tab under the cavitation plate? If so, there's probably another bolt hidden underneath it.

If not, the splined top of the drive shaft may be rusted into the splines of the crank shaft!

There's a bolt in the rear of the gearcase. You need to remove the rear lower cowling to access it. I've got a few mid-housings with the rear casting broken due to folks not knowing that bolt was there...

this would be removing the phillips to remove the leg cowling? I thought it felt like there was a bolt still in it

BEAUTIFUL!! there it was the mystery bolt! dropped it this impeller looks brand new no cracks flexable no rust etc i think it was not in the keyway.
going to reinstall and take a look see. Maybe thermostate?? which I can't get the scews out btw why do they use flat head screws hate them things
