What direction should seals be installed? (9.9 HP)

Parts and service manual makes no mention of this.

Engine is a 1977 9.9 HP

Talking about the upper crankshaft seal, and the crankcase head seal.

Lips on the upper seal are always facing down on motors ive worked on. The thin spring being lubricated by oil from the crankcase.

Not sure what the head seal is?
