The motor is a 1971 Johnson 50hp. I had a few problems with it but thanks to reading the posts and the replies to my posts i got things straightened out. So i want to start with saying thanks. Now i have another problem. I took the gear case off and the impeller and mounting plate and found that my bearing housing and seal assembly was broke. Can i fix this since everywhere that i have looked so far says it is no longer available. i'm trying to upload a photo

Re: what do i do now?

I just looked on shop.evinrude.com and the part is still available at a price of$108.50. The part number is 384160.

Many of the parts listed there are actually stocked by Sea-Way Marine, which is the largest OMC NOS warehouse in the U.S. What you are probably running into if you have been calling OMC/BRP dealers, is that their computer system doesn't list the part. This is common because the BRP parts listing that the dealers use, isn't the same as what is on the shop.evinrude.com site.

I'll bet I could make one for a way lot less than that. But just a note, I found that when you order from the BRP site, they search for availability and ship from wherever they find it.

Agreed. There are a number of non-BRP businesses around the country that stock OMC NOS parts. Sea-way just happens to be one that I have dealt with personally (they were recommended by my local OMC/BRP dealer) and I feel comfortable recommending them. If BRP is comfortable enough with them to actually list availibility of a part on its website though, you can have a feeling of confidence in dealing with any of them.

Maybe a long shot but try NAPA, they have a pretty good selection of parts, maybe Ebay too or just pony up and buy it from shop evinrude.
