I have a 17 foot dauntless boston whaler. I've been wakeboarding for about 5 years now, i need to be able to get more air for more complex tricks. The size of my wake is actually not bad when i have some people the boat. Im interested in adding a wakeboard tower or a pylon. But do they make them for whalers? Which would look better? Do you think it will improve the amount of air i get?

Hello WakeKW.

It should have a positive effect.

If money is no option then get one for sure, I would if I was you. A tower will allow you the addition of racks which will free up space in the boat. For me that is a big plus. A pylon would be cheaper and you can take it down. Both have merits.

However, if you're looking for a massive benefit (i.e. 2/3 extra feet of height on your jumps) then you may be disappointed. A bigger wake is the best thing to boost height but your boat will call it's own limit on that.

They are expensive, but Samson Tower has some really neat fishing towers that also serve as a wakeboard tower. It would keep your whaler more true to form.

5 years behind a whaler...wow

you really need a better rig to progress. you need enough power and weight to push more water. the width of the whaler wake might limit you some too. it's best to land in the trough of the wake as opposed to the flats. with a very narrow wake and bigger tricks, you will tear up your knees if you're always landing in the flats.

80's nautique 2001's aren't that expensive if you can sell the whaler. or find friends with inboard boats. join a wakeboarding club.

where are you located?
