As the title says. I'm hoping this will be able to tell me if its leaking, and from where.
Of If its just leaking from being stored upside down for 2 months.

This is on a 1990 60 HP
And hopefully for my 1972ish 6 HP

A typical dealership performs two tests on an empty gearcase to prove it's leak integrity. A pressure test AND a vacuum test. Two different testers. Many use testers from the Stevens Instrument company. The S-34 is the pressure tester, the V34 is the vacuum tester. Both sell for around $ 136 retail.

You can pressure test your gearcase with anything that will supply, hold, and monitor 12-15 psi to your gearcase. Basically, you need to supply pressure to the gearcase (an air source), control and isolate the pressure to the gearcase (a valve and/or a regulator), and a way to monitor the pressure (a gauge). You can spend the bucks on a purpose-designed pressure tester, but you may be able to rig up an adequate tester from what you already have in your shop. I've seen them made from coolant pressure testers, vacuum pumps, even bicycle pumps. I use a low pressure regulator, fitted with a control valve and the correct fitting for the gearcase drain, connected directly to my air compressor.

The thread is 3/8-NC----I made an adapter years ago with a gauge and shreader valve.---Uses a bicycle pump to pressure it up.---No chance to blow out the seals using that pump.

Well I have a vacuum pump I bought when I thought I knew how to fix my cars A/C system, and I have a vacuum gauge, wouldn't I just need to make some adapters?
My leak-down tester I have has a gauge on it, wouldn't this work fine? All I would need is an adapter here too.
...if I'm understanding this correctly anyway.

I like the price of the ebay one, but that's just a Harbor Fright Transfer pump with some ends made up.
