I took my carbs apart and got the rebuild kit, but i want to soak them first and make sure i get them as clean as i can. When ever i use carb cleaner on aluminum parts there is always a white powdery build up left over and i dont want that in my carbs. I have seen those parts cleaner buckets you know with the basket so you can submerge the parts, is this a good idea? what should i use?

I use Chemtool. Comes in a gallon can with a strainer basket. Never had it damage ant carbs.

A lot of "just cleaned" carbs don't work, Ranger.

The most common mistake I have found is the three (usually) tiny passages into the carb throat near the throttle plate. They must be cleared. The soaking liquid often carries some varnish residue into them. High pressure air usually clears them, or you can gain access by removing the Welch plugs that are on the top of the carb body. There should be replacement plugs in your kit.

Good luck. :)

i will definatly keep that in mind and pay close attention to that paert when i'm cleaning. i got the carb cleaner gallon and am soaking the lower half now, i will use compressed air and carb cleaner can to clear everything out, i have done car carbs before and always had then come out so i hope the boats is the same.

I rinse my barbs with aerosol carl cleaner when I take the out of the dip. Use the straw and blow cleaner through every orifice not matter how small, then blow with compressed air.
I also sometimes use a torch tip cleaner or fine wire like the wire that is in bread bag ties to get small passages if they are really clogged.

Once you get them clean to keep them clean you might want to mix a little seafoam in you gas tank that will keep the carbs clean and disburse any condinsation that might form in them. You can find it at the local napa auto parts.

Yes, there are directions on the back of the seafoam can.
