This is what I used on a 35 year old hull that was pretty neglected. I used a random orbit polisher. However, what you see here was a test and was hand applied and buffed. This was about 2 years ago and was just recently rewaxed and still looks good.

I used Four Seasons rubbing compound. My hull was pretty bad oxidized and that stuff really brought out the shine.
I have a random orbital buffer but I found I got more satisfing results by doing it by hand. It took alot of hours and some pretty sore arms but it looks great! Followed up by a high quality Carnuba wax, again mine was four seasons but there are alot of them out there..
Once you get into this process it is kinda addictive.
Good luck and enjoy the new shine you are going to find underneath the chalky exterior.

Re: what do i use to polish my hull

Did you guys notice any issue with doing it in sections, and the sections not matching up (basically looking spotty)? I tried to clean my chaulky hull and I could get one section clean, move to the next and although it looked good up close, when standing back, the two sections didn't clean the same. It looked just as bad as being chaulky.

I prefer doing things myself, and want to get some products and try it out, just want to make sure I'm not wasting any money.

Mine blended seamlessly and got a slick hard gloss feel. the Finesse did that trick

Re: what do i use to polish my hull

I have to dissagree with most the group. When it comes to planes or boats, I shy away from wax's. They breakdown too easily by UV. Ever read on the bottle 'do not apply in direct sunlight'? I lean toward polishes that do every bit as much for protection and last longer.

There is an old product that's hard to find, Amazing Glaze, that is a great paint sealant I use before polishing the surface. Does a great job, I've used this process on everything from cars to boats, to jets.

Hope this helps!

What about Island Girl and Rejex and 505? where does Collinite fall into this?

Re: what do i use to polish my hull

Lots of different ideas. I bought my boat on line. I knew what I wanted and found one in Arizona. I live in Nebraska. Sent pictures back and forth and looked pretty good. WELL got there to get it and found out he had put oil on the hull to make it look good... Needles to say I wasn't too happy. It was in very bad shape. Got it home and cleaned it all up and it had NO luster. I wet sanded the whole boat 400 then 1000. Buffed and polished it.. Looks GREAT now. Lots and lots of elbow grease. it's a 24 foot boat.

I use the collinite 885 heavy duty paste. works really good.
You also can put on multi. layers of wax. I put on about 3 or 4 colts and then about 1 or 2 colts the collinite 840 insulator wax. do about 2 to 3 feet at a time.work real well.

Lots of good reports on Collinite. But I get confused with the different designations. Paste, liquid, insulator, etc. how does one choose?

Re: what do i use to polish my hull

That, right there, is a good question. As you can see there's as many opinions as there are brands of boats. But keep this in mind, the only way to obtain a good shine, one that lasts and protects is HARD WORK. All the quick one step stuff may look good for a week even a month but who wants to redo the job monthly ? Collinite wax has Insulator, its called that because it was formulated to stop flashover on high tension power lines..now,what will it do to protect your hull ?
Its the best !

Read my posts here for Instructions and products that work. I have posted this so many times I think I need to just make a copy so I can paste it in a new posted question because this same question comes up about 25 times a year. This post really covers decals, Fade, Oxidation and polishing. A short but good informative solution to Polishing a Boat. You must use a variable Speed Commercial Buffer.
