Ok so after having my Key Largo 160cc for one year I felt it was time to let it go. I really thought a center console fishing boat was what I wanted but I guess I was wrong. It was a great boat and built like a brick you know what lol. So the other day I decided to list it on craigslist and thank God it's sold the second day and I was able to buy my new bow one day later. The new boat is a 1999 four winns 170 horizon. The gentleman I brought it from has owned it for 8 to 9 years and only put maybe a total of 20 to 30 hours on the boat and he purchased it from the original owner. I did a compression check of the 1999 Johnson 115 and it was about 135 to 140 PSI on every cylinder. When I remove the cowling I was shocked to see factory tags still hanging on the engine and paint that looks like it was just sprayed on the other day from the factory even machined aluminum surfaces are still like chrome and brand-new and freeze plugs are a shiny as the day they will put in. The boat is in great condition no rips in the interior and no major hull damage other than some scratches in the stickers. It also came with the upgraded powder coated custom four winns trailer. I did a tap test on the transmission and the stringers and they seemed to be rock-solid. It seems to me like it's a very well-made boat so I just wanted to know what you what you all think of the boat and also what you think of the engine how good the V4's really are. Thanks dan

Dose any one know how much wood is used in their builds. I know the transom and stringers but it seems to be the floor is made out of something different just doesn't feel like we would maybe all fiberglass ?

The OMC V4 has been around . It is a proven design. Parts are available way back to the original 50 HP version. You could not ask for a better engine.

Nice boat! I bought a 2003 Four Winns 170 Freedom last fall and it is basically the same boat as yours but has a different color schematic on the hull. On mine, the floor of the boat is actually the liner and I don't believe there is any wood in the floor/liner but there may be some wood sandwiched between the stringer and the liner to help support it but that is just a guess - I know the liner is all FG. The liner is one big piece of FG that forms the hull above the rub rail, the interior gunwale, the dash, floor, integrated swim platform, etc.

Sounds like you got a great price on it. Enjoy your new boat!
