While it might be in your price range for purchasing price, I'd suggest taking
into consideration what the operating costs will be, also.

General rule of thumb on fuel mileage costs is 10% of your horsepower per hour,
so that could be about 25 gallons per hour. Of course, it would be a little less.

If you got it for it, then go for it! Nice boat!

it is a great hull-power plant set up. if it is as good condition as it looks. go for it. if it has not been done, it is getting time for the manifolds to be changed. find out the last time the outdrive was pulled, and serviced, including bellows.

Dude that is a sweet boat, I wish that was my boat budget also then I wouldn't be sifting through the wore outs and has beens trying to find my new treasure. I don't mean to take away from your post, but is that ten percent thing accurate? And does it hold true for two stroke also?

really? 25 gallons an hour seems absurd. it says the capacity is 35 gallons. that would mean id be filling up every hour and a half(give or take). man i thought my big block Chevelle was thirsty.

No, not really, I don't have $11k layin around, nor could I ever get it  But it sure looks good to me,,, Don't worry lets_fish, I'd say it's a misprint, trust me, not 25gals an hour , more like 2.5gals an hour :D
Go For it, if it checks out Ok ;)

I've read that 10%HP/Gallon rule of thumb in other places. It's supposed to be true IF the boat is run at Wide Open Throttle the whole time.

So, a 10HP run for 1 hour at WOT would use about 1 gallon. Sounds about right to me.

Could be that the 10% hp guideline for gas usage is mainly for outboards at WOT.

SWEET PICKLES !!!! 25 gal per hr.....NNNOOOOOOO, My twin 525 Scarab eats 20 gph at full throttle, and thats two 750 HP monsters each with 900cfm Hollys. For a single 350 on a 21' hes looking at about 8-10 at full throttle, BTW- That boat listed for about 14K NEW... so, he's asking alot for a well maintained 9 YO boat in a buyers market.

Re: what do you guys think of this maxum for sale?

I have some experience with this boat as a friend of mine bought one new. He ran the pants off of it, and he was an extreme novice  He literally beat the snot out of it and it held up. It ran around 55 MPH, handled very well. Weak points were Bimini mounting hardware and the big piano hinge across the back where it attached to the upholstery. Take a look at that area. Not a reason to avoid the boat at all, but will need attention. Seats started getting tired too, mainly loose, but again, he really beat this thing up. He knows two speeds on and off . . . I always called it a magic hull as it really went well. The only maintenance she got was from me too, but the fact is, that an Alpha is an Alpha is an Alpha, so that doesn't really have anything to do with the boat.

The rule of thumb above on fuel use is for WOT. You will not use that much fuel, but 30 gallons a day would not be uncommon for some cruising, tubing, and ricky racing around.

Marine 503, dude, love you man, but, uh, like wow. Twin MPI 502 415s use 66 GPH at WOT. I think you need to adjust your fuel flow meter . . . ;)

Oh, and the 5.7L 250 carbed uses about 20 GPH at WOT, doesn't matter what application, if it is propped right, that 250 bhp takes that much fuel, but cruising you're probably only using 100 bhp and 10 GPH . . . You may get 4 MPG between 35 and 40 . . .

Off track, here, but my old 15' trihull with a 65hp Merc O/B will pull a skier or tuber for about 3 hours before one of my 6 gallon tanks goes dry.
