What do you think about the board?

As a relative new member on the board I was just wondering how everyone would rate the current board as a whole. I don’t think any of the Mods would get upset if they see what the majority of the members think. If 0 meant I’m out of here, and 10 meant the best board ever, where would you put it? I’m at about an 8.

For what it is supposed to be, I don't see how you could give it any less than a 10. How else in life could you ask a question and stand the possibility of getting so many answers from both experienced hobbiest and professionals? A no brainer for me.

*****10*****

Oh, and I forgot to mention, all FOR FREE!

Re: What do you think about the board?

It has been fun watching this board grow. From the 1600 member mark to what it is now is just amazing. I have checked other forums out, but it just wasn't like home. Back in its infant stage, people like JB, 12Footer, Navaigator, Ranger, and others that was there then just made you feel at home. That is why I can't stay away.

The number of members speaks for itself in being a successful board. Also the moderation of this board in managing its content is superb! Without a doubt it is a great site.

There are alot of members that are more to being assets to this board that should also be praised. It isn't the total number of posts that one gets, but the content, sincerity, and knowledge that they supply that gets the respect.

There have been many members who were real active with several hundred posts, and those that have only posted a few. Then "POOF" they fade away and new members take their place. To get an idea of what I'm saying, look at Mr. Horsepowers post on "whats your username stands for" To me it is almost like a scap book.

I just can't say anything bad about this place I call home......SS :D

Its like a change of guard..Many faces have come and gone since I came on board. Look at your member number..how many are in your number status that are still here..Many came seeking help then went on..those that stayed found new friends and a way to help one with tech problems including Dockside Chat

When a member is down or loses a loved one the support comes from here..a new baby is brought into the world and we are here to share the joy.

And yes when we get out of hand we are let known by the word"poof"..All are welcomed here. Thats why I rate iboats at a ten..Plus I have a 50$ certificate from iboats i need to use soon..

If your vote is anything less than 10, you need to start paying for advice :p :D

Re: What do you think about the board?

Ok, here is my take on this place.
It is good for what it was intended for, to help fellow boaters.

But it has grown to a lot more now.
It's a place where you can get support for just about anything that life throws at you.

There are some that it is place of get away.

To some, it's a place to find a father figure.

To others, just a place to unwind from ever day stuff.

And to some, to brag a little about different things.
The only drawback I have with the iboats company is that they will not listen, or the people answering the emails will not listen.

I have wrote many a time about the repair manual I bought.
It is stated on this website wrong.
And still is.
But is also states that all sales are final so they have me by the short hairs which is alright.

I just wish they would correct the problem.
You can see here what I am talking about.
http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...ory=mariner outboard manual&cart_id=285427630
This is for a manual for a Mariner that is suppose to be for 2 to 200HP up to 1989.
But it is not, it is just good to 1987.

I know, I have one and like I said, they do not want to talk to me about it cause it says as you can see, "all sales are final"
Oh well, thats life with the big time.

Re: What do you think about the board?

IMHO, I'd give this forum a strong 7. Some of the topics are downright interesting, all of the experience is excellent, but the comaraderie needs just a little more compassion. Seems like the morale is a couple of clicks shy of ideal, and I can't figure if it's because it's winter and everyone's getting a little cabin-fever and boat-antsy, or if it's the perceptions of the state of the country in general.
I do know one thing: Some of y'all need to seriously lighten up!

Oh, and BUY FROM IBOATS.COM!!
It's because of them that we get to sit here and air our gripes, post our jokes, spill our guts, and ask for help. And I, for one, appreciate the opportunity!
This is The Truth. I'm out.

Re: What do you think about the board?

well i agree there is always room for improvement. so i would give it a strong 8 maybe a weak 9. i mainly post in the dockside chat forum but i usually read the fishing. the new non boating topics of interest and a couple of the outboard ones. also enjoy the boat projects one. i would post more in the other forums if had more answers. usually if i have an answer someone else has already shared the answer. all in all i have been made to feel very welcome here and i cant even begin to list all that i have learned. one negative tho is there is alot of bashing of politicians on this board and i have learned to stay away from those threads,

Re: What do you think about the board?

curb appeal = 7
technical = 9
popularity = 9
user friendly=10
hospitality = 5
atmosphere = 3

i really like this place. i hope it is always available. if it went to totally technical only, it might better match its intentions. :)

but it would bother me to know that i'd contributed to a site for them to later profit off of technical experience without some fringe benefits or 'fun' topics, and no acknowledgement of those who had been involved. hopefully this will never happen here.

Re: What do you think about the board?

since the change, no one posts at all it seems, hot topics or just gripes ... rather Orwellian, but its ok, still my favorite website by far, (S-10 forum and eBay are def time grabbers tho, and of course dogpile for my various inquizative ruminations)

:cool:

Re: What do you think about the board?

On the technical side I give it a 9... The amount of experience on board here is priceless...

On the fun-o-meter I give the former NTDWB now "dockside chat" a dismal 2... Things used to be a lot lighter...

DERWOOD! Would you please come back and rescue us from the dismal depths.... :( This place really needs a good yarn about some trick bolt'n on the Shady or a carb rebuild on the kitchen table. :)
