Okay, the facts. 1979 Johnson 55HP engine. Sat for a year, will start and idle with the warm-up lever lifted. Wants to stall when going into gear. Once in gear and underway, will run, but I believe only on one cylinder (the bottom, or #2). Engine will occasionally surge and actually came to full life for about 10 seconds while on the water. I suspect a weak spark on the #1 cylinder. Doing a check with the multimeter when I have time off of work. Also, will be doing a rebuild on both carbs at that time. What is the opinion of those out there. What else should I do, or be looking at. Have a general 2 cycle engine knowledge, but this is the first time it is applied to boat engines. (I usually work on scooters or motorcycles). Also, this engine uses a magneto with a power pack. I thought it originally was a point system so assumed the #1 cylinder had bad points and was not getting the proper power to the plug. Okay, hit me up with some responses please!!

New plugs
Check spark with spark tester jump 7/16" gap
Rebuild carbs - probably fouled/varnished from sitting.
Fresh fuel/oil

Read up in the secret file post at top of forum first. Great information.
