I've got a brand new Volvo Penta 3.0 GS to replace a 2000 GSM-A. After I found milky oil and water in the 4th cylinder with no apparent reason, I called Michigan Motorz for some advice. They told me to check the riser and the restrictor plate. I found that I installed the restrictor plate the correct way according to the label on the plate, but if you look in the manual it says to ignore the label and install it the opposite way. So now I have few questions:
1. What does a restrictor plate do?
2. Would installing it wrong cause water in the 4th cylinder?
3. I have replaced both gaskets & used gasket sealer. Should I also use the RTV to bond the restrictor plate to the gasket?
4. I have filled both the exhaust side and the water passages in he riser with water independently and let them sit to see if they would leak in the other passages (IE: water into exhaust passage or exhaust into water passage). Found no leaking. Is this a true test to make sure there are no cracks in the riser? Thanks for any help!
